Is there any financial assistance available for caregivers during the transition of becoming a veterans caregiver prior to VA approval?

My fiancee was injured in Iraq and has a disability rating of 80% through the VA. He has always attempted to self manage his PTSD without assistance. Over the past few months things have progressed at a dangerous rate. He was in a terrible car accident, and shortly after hospitalized for brief psychosis. My permanent residence is in Chicago Il, but due to the series of unfortunate events I relocated to care for him to Henderson Nevada. We applied for the caregiver program but were told there is a 4 month wait due to high volume of applicants in this area. I have been here for over a month, and we have made some progress, we are currently awaiting his acceptance into The Road Home program through Rush hospital in Chicago. Since I am unable to work at this time due to the nature of his care needed, I was wondering if there are any grants or financial assistance available during this transition period.
