It appears he in not adequately taking care of his sick wife? My friend's mother had a stroke last year and has been bed-ridden for over a year (basically inbetween a minimally conscious state and a vegetative state). Her husband has POA and has decided to take care of her in his home without help from healthcare aides and refuses to listen to advice from family members or get help. Since he is not equipped to properly take care of her, she is being neglected and suffering from infections, etc. What are the first steps to take to start trying to remove POA from him so that her other family members can get her the care she needs? From what I am reading, this is extremely difficult to do. Any advice would be much appreciated.

The family needs to go into the home, not say one thing that husband's wife needs outside help.... but say they are there to do the laundry, do some light housekeeping, cook a meal. Don't go in asking.... go in doing. By asking, he will automatically say no. Ask him how is he doing. Ask him if he has any questions. Hopefully he will start to open up, and then the family can slowly bring in nursing Aides, etc.
