My niece has cancer and needs hospice but Medicaid will not pay for it. Is there anything we can do to get help to pay for her care?
The hospital she is in Medicaid no longer wants to pay for it. The hospital she is in Medicaid no longer wants to pay for.we can't afford it ourselves. She also has 3 small children we are taking care too.
Your niece is on Medicaid, yes? What kind of hospital is she is that Medicaid will not cover?
Is the issue that Medicaid will not cover the "room and board" part of care and will only cover the Hospice care?
The best person to talk to about this is the hospice social worker, who may be able to point you towards ways to fund the room and board part of the care.
Betty as your niece has three young children I assume your niece is not old enough for Medicare. Talk to your local hospice there is often a sliding scale for those with little money. Definitely talk to the social worker at the hospital she should be able to help. Do not be guilted or bullied into taking your niece into your home if you are unable to care for her. You just tell them no and even if they send her in an ambulance refuse to let them bring her into the house. Lock the door they can't force their way in. Is there a husband anywhere in the picture or her own parents and siblings who could care for her?
