When applying for Medicaid, how is it possible to accurately "look back" into an account held jointly by two separate unmarried co-owners?

If an account is owned by two people and both people have their ss number attached to the account, then Medicaid considers that money to be completely owned by each person individually. What that means is if the account holds $10,000 then Medicaid sees the $10,000 as completely owned by the person applying for Medicaid. It does not matter where the money came from or who put it in there...this is the danger of having a joint account.
