Where to find transportation to the doctors to have a day surgery by getting there and back?

I am 63 still live on my own. There is no need to stay with me at Drs. and I live in Cumming and Orthopedic dr is also in Cumming . Is there any help out there that doesn't cost a lot of money?

Much more information regarding finances would be required to accurately direct you. In NY State, Medicaid would cover non-emergency transportation.

Pamela53: Go on Cummings, Georgia Uber site. There is a code there, enabling you to get your first Uber ride for free.

Try calling a local church for help as well. I know our church (I'm in PA) has a group that will assist folks needing transportation.

In addition, different insurance companies will pay for transportation. My son, a nationally registered EMT, works for an emergency transportation company. Much of what he does is transporting people exactly like you… those who need transportation to an appointment. In your case, they would drop you and return later, rather than wait the several hours.

Good luck! I'm sure you will find a ride.

The Red Cross in our area use to transport people to appointments and such, however the national policy has changed and they are back to their original mission. Which does not include the volunteer and salaried transport workers. In our community no other group has stepped up to people that need transport to doctors offices, etc. My best guess would be a paid service like a taxi or Uber, etc. or if you are a member of a church perhaps there is a member of the congregation that could help. I have been in a similar position in the past and it's hard to find rides when you don't have a support system. And as others have said - ask the doctors office if they have any transport arraignment available. I hope this gets settled for you.

Oh. And when I had cataract surgery the clinic sent a van. Be sure to ask at your clinic and also your insurance company if such services are available.

When I went in for day surgery and didn't need someone to stay with me, I asked a neighbor and she gladly drove me. Another neighbor picked me up. These are people who have often said, "If there is anything I can do, just ask." Well, I asked!

Try your local Red Cross. Ours had volunteer drivers.

If you don't have a smartphone you can use GoGoGrandparent - it's an automated hotline that lets you use Uber and Lyft without a smartphone.

Call your local area angency on aging and ask about medical transportation. There are all kinds of companies that provide it. Or you could do a google search of your area.

Use Uber it is way less phone or a taxi ,when you text them they are there within 15 minutes. You set the account on your smart phone, Lyft is the same way, I just have not had a chance to use them t hey are not in my area

Pamela, this site is very helpful for many things caregiving related. It will not arrange various services however. If you need help with arranging transportation, call the Area Agency on Aging, they will have a complete list of transportation alternatives. Maybe the hospital has a volunteer organization that will help with tranporting you for an outpatient procedure? What about a friend or neighbor?

You could use a ride share service such as Uber or Lyft. They tend to be both reliable and affordable. A taxi could be another option. Sometimes the county has a service to assist people getting to medical appointments. There are also some dedicated non-emergency medical-related transportation services.

Pamela, why don't you ask the doctor's office? They must be used to arranging patients' transportation, surely; or at least know where you can find some.
