Where can I find housing for a blind man who is homeless?

He is presently living in a city shelter depending on people to help him with everything. He has no family and he receives Social Security income.

I was checking D.C. as Pam was posting, but lost everything when I accidentally switched screens.

As Pam suggests, D.C. has a lot of resources. I also searched on "D.C, Veteran's housing", and "Section 8 Housing, D.C."

If he's a Veteran, you might want to try that source first; I'm sure there's a lot of red tape involved, but according to VA newsletters, it's making more intense efforts to address homelessness of Vets.

Good luck; it's kind of you to be concerned about this person.

Washington DC has a wonderful network, a shelter hotline and several charities that assist finding housing. Go up to the Search Site box and enter "Washington,DC" and information will pop up.

I would start with the Department of Social Services in his county. In my state, they process the person's application for all kind of things, like Medicaid and state programs and benefits. You could also ask about resources for people with disabilities. There are agencies that focus on services for the Blind as well. There is website called American Federation for the Blind that might offer some tips as well.
