Does anyone know of a good medication or method in keeping hiccups at bay?

My father has Alzheimer's and chronic hiccups.

Take a deep breath hold it, force the diaphragm to stop spasming. In rare cases nerve damage at the vagus nerve or phrenic nerve can make you hiccup non stop. A neurologist would prescribe a seizure control medication temporarily.

I've always heard that you should drink a full glass of water and that should help. I'm not so sure that works. I've also read that getting air in the tummy is what causes them, so to avoid eating too fast, don't drink carbonated beverages and not to talk when you eat. So, that's something to consider. I'm not sure how you can get a person with dementia to cooperate with all those measures.

I would also discuss it with his doctor and see if more can be done, such as some medication.
