Exhaustion from caregiving.

Dad passed away in hospice care on 9/7. It has been a long journey; 4-1/2 years of 24/7 caregiving with my husband along with 2 of those years also visiting my mom, who had to be placed in a nursing home. Now I find I am tired quite a bit. I keep myself going during the day and resist the urge to nap. That helps, but I can't get to doing stupid household cleaning chores that need to be done! Has anyone gone through this? How do I get off my duff and do them?

My mom passed 8/30 so I know how you're feeling. I'm also executor so I know there is more work ahead. Right now I'm waiting for my moms ashes and her death certificate before much can be done - family is scattering her ashes next Sunday. You'd think I could get some household chores done in the mean time but I mainly find myself watching TV or randomly futzing around the house. So - I made a deal with myself - until I get the death certs I can continue being a slug. But after that - I have to shift from neutral to at least second gear. Mourning and recovery is a process that seems to have its own timeline and agenda. If you find yourself still lacking motivation after a while, try picking a date and promise yourself that starting then you'll accomplish one thing a day - even the simpliest of task will do. I'm sorry for your loss.
