How do I convince my husband, with Parkinson's, that he needs to exercise?

Linda22 Dec 2016
Our primary doc gave me pamphlet today for group called Rock Steady. Studies have shown that boxing, of all things, really helps people with PD. I'm hoping I can get my husband to go by there tomorrow to check it out. It's a non-profit organization, they have branches around the country. I'm thinking it'll be more fun for him than joining a gym, as his neuro suggested. Fingers crossed!

My Dad would always do so much more with the physical therapist would visit. Our therapist told us not to be discouraged most patient will do things for others, but not for family members. We also learned not to give Dad options, just tell him it's time to walk a little. Hang in there!

frequent flyer has a good point. If the bath aide or the PT person is an interesting female in scrubs, the male patient is all too eager to please.
If the person is a large muscular male with a commanding voice who looks like an MD, total compliance is given.

My Dad wouldn't exercise on his own. Once he was getting professional physical therapy we noticed that Dad did more exercising if there was a female PT. After his appointment, he wouldn't do the exercises himself.... [sigh].

Once I got regular caregivers to come in, they would tell Dad it is time to do his exercises and he would.
