Shelley. Nanny Cam and bed alarm are great ideas l have utilized. Due to my mom walking during middle of night, l added a secure baby gate at her bedroom doorframe. It has been a Godsend for me. I sometimes use it during her mid-day nap.
Like MJKinLAN, I bought a bed alarm. Mine actually sits on the floor about 6 feet from the bed and can detect when Hubby puts his feet out of the bed onto the floor. And, yes the pager part I clip onto my belt or on my bed. It has two sounds, "ding-dong" or alarm. Only I can hear it. What a saver as Hubby was a night walker for a while.
Night wandering is very common with all types of dementia as is secretly hoarding/stashing items. When it started with my Mom, I would find her fully dressed with her purse "ready to go!" at 3:00am. If you live with her, a bed alarm that only rings in your room will let you know she's up. I also used that in conjunction with a nanny cam to see if she was just getting up to use the restroom or if she was on a mission! Explain the behavior to her PCP. Medication can really help! Sometimes it's something as simple as a UTI, but I would also have her cognitive functions tested now so you have something to compare to down the road.
