Could Father have frontal temporal dementia?

My 83 year old father continues to make unkind, mean, hurtful remarks to family members and guests. Other family members do not want to believe that it could be dementia - His entire personality has changed, and his remarks are causing family members to not want to attend our family holiday gatherings. Please advise. thank you

Start with your dad's family Dr. A diagnosis of dementia doesn't happen in one visit. Your dad needs to be evaluated and tested and scanned. His Dr. may refer your dad to other Dr.'s. It's a process. But since your dad's personality had changed I'd start with taking him to his Dr. first.

If this personality change has been sudden, have your Dad checked for an urinary tract infection [UTI] which in elders can cause unkind, mean, hurtful behavior.
