My birthmother was recently displaced and had no where to go and has been living with me since August 2016 - I am struggling to keep my head above water as I just moved to Florida myself. Is there any assistance available to me.
Majority of grown children do not get paid for caring for a relative unless that relative can pay you an hourly rate for taking care of them. If yes, then you would need to prepare an employment contract.
Otherwise, see if your Mom can apply and be approved for Medicaid. Depending on her health issues, if any, Mom could be moved to a nursing home and Medicaid would pay for her care. That way you can return to work to earn some extra money.
Another suggestion is to call your local agency on aging and see what programs are available. There are Meals On Wheels for seniors if you live in or very close to a large city.
