What is the average cost per hour for home health care?

pamstegma Dec 2016
If all you need is a PCA or HHA, start at $10 per hour. For a CNA who can handle medications, $15. A nurse who can inject insulin, $20. A chauffeur, $25 per hour.

I meant to ask, are you going through Medicare or self pay?

That's a hard question to answer. A lot depends on what the caregiver is required to do. And a lot depends on where you live. If you live in a large metroplex like New York City, Chicago, Boston, LA, Washington DC then the rates would be much higher than a small or medium size area.

I live in the Washington DC burbs and my Dad was paying $30 an hour [time & half for holidays]. Dad's caregivers would help him shower, help him dress, cook his meals, do laundry and light housekeeping, drive him to doctor appointments or to the barber shop, set out his pills to take, keep him company.

Also it depends on the Agency, the one Dad used was licensed, bonded, insured, had workman's comp for their employees, and other benefits... and worked out of an office.
