My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and sometimes does things that are funny. Is it wrong to laugh?

My daughter has gotten very angry with me for laughing to myself. For example, one day my mom threw her can of hairspray outside. She asked me to pick it up and run very fast, and then throw it over the fence. Some days I feel like losing my mind and laughing occasionally keeps me sane.

I've tried talking to my daughter (she is an adult) letting her know that the situation was funny and that I meant no harm. I would rather laugh than cry, which sometimes we do. Since then I do not laugh around her or my mother. I would not want to hurt my mom's feelings.

Sometimes it really is a laugh or cry situation- laughter is always better, IMO. As long as it's not mean spirited or hurts anyone's feelings...

Oh, you HAVE to laugh...or you'll cry or go nuts. So yes, laugh when you need to!

Dealing with an elder, one does need to have a sense of humor. I think that is why my Dad's two caregivers got along so well with him and he with them... they were able to laugh about things.

JK, I can just picture you if you did run out into the yard, picked up the hairspray can, and ran fast to throw it over the fence :)
