How much money can my mom gift me per month for Medicaid look back?
She still lives in assisted living and pays her own way. What is the safe amount a parent can gift to her child (POA also) per month for medecaid 5 yr lookback. She has Alzheimers middle stage but can comprehend and still read, be social, etc..
Are we talking about gifts or pay for care, there is a difference. I believe a parent can pay for care received, but there will have to be a properly drawn contract in place in order for it to hold water with medicaid.
Nothing. Any amounts gifted during the 5 year lookback will be subject to a penalty once the person applies for Medicaid. As POA, you are also not supposed to accept financial gain from the person that you are responsible for.
I don't think she can gift you any meaningful amount. I would let her money be used for her own care and not take a chance that Medicaid would notice it if she applied. If Medicaid noticed it -- and they'll have her financial records -- then there would be a penalty of the amount that was gifted. One thing you can do is check to see if your state allows payment for POA services. If they do, then you could pay yourself if your mother is willing to do that.
