My dad has complained of being cold for years when others were comfortable and now suddenly is always hot. Suggestions as to why?

My 93 year old father has enjoyed good health until later years. He is much less mobile and always stated that he felt cold. In recent months, it seems that he always feels hot and states that he feels uncomfortably warm. What are possible causes?

In he takes thyroid medication, check to see if he is taking it properly or if prescription strength has been changed.

My mother is diabetic. She is normally always cold. Sometimes in the evening I see her fanning herself when the house is comfortable. She says she is hot. It lets me know her blood sugar is too high.

There are many things that can make a person feel warm -- blood sugar, over-active thyroid, food and digestion. You might be able to figure it out if you notice when it's most likely to happen. His doctor can also do blood work to help figure it out.

Has your Dad started to take any new medicines? Some times a side effect of a medicine will create hot flashes, yes even in men.

I have noticed with myself, I am having issues wearing flannel shirts, makes me feel way too warm. So at bed time I am back in my summers pajamas, all this due to a side effect of one of the meds that I am taking. I also keep a window open in the bedroom and have dropped the heat to 68 at night.

Has this being hot been brought up to his doctor? If Dad still feels way too warm wearing a cotton shirt and cotton slacks, then the doctor needs to start searching to what is causing this. It could even be food related, like acid reflux.
