My mother (87) says during the night she hears two men on ladders outside her window. Is this dementia or bad dreams?
who are trying to come in through her air conditioner. Is this a symptom of Dementia /Alzheimer's or just bad dreams? She went through this once before and it went on for weeks.
Does your mother have any other symptoms that might suggest dementia? In the daytime, does she see things that aren't there? Does she get confused about time of day, or season of the year? Does she want to wear snow boots after snow has been gone a month (or that kind of thing)? Is she still handling her own finances, and if so is she managing that OK? Does she ever refer to deceased persons as if they are alive? Does she forget that she had breakfast a half an hour ago and ask for it again? If you are driving her to an appointment does she ask several times where you are going?
Hallucinations and/or delusions can be symptoms of dementia, but they occur for other reasons as well. Is her health generally good? Might she have a uti -- they are notorious for causing disturbed behavior in older people. This might be a good time for a general checkup, including testing for a uti.
I think this warrants observing her more closely than you have in the past, and making note of behaviors that seem "off." If this is dementia other symptoms will show themselves.
