Can patients flip in and out of lucidity with lewy body dementia?

I am a nurse doing icassional shifts in an older persons setting. One gentleman has advanced LBD and makes a lot of incoherent noises and seems to be punching the air like he is swatting invisible flys. At times though when asked about his grandson or previous life, he will answer very appropriately, even asking me questions making it a two way (albeit it short), lucid conversion then switch back off to making noises and 'swatting flies). Is this. Ormal ir even possible behaviour. Thank you

Yes, this happens with different types of dementia as long as portions of the brain are still in working order. You tapped into a portion of the brain that was still working right.

We have a person on the group whose husband had LBD. I hope that she will be along soon. I know that her husband was lucid throughout much of his journey with LBD. She can probably provide much good insight into what you're noticing.
