Can Medicaid take Mom's once a year retirement to pay for her care?

My mom is 60 yrs old in a nursing home with end stages of dementia and cancer. She has no memory. She receives Medicaid as her other insurance does not cover nursing home care. She receives a once a yr retirement of $17,000. Can medicaid take that money to pay for her care. I don't want to use it and find out I am not entitled to it

Somebody would have had to provide details of all your mother's income sources in her Medicaid application. If this pension wasn't listed, it should have been. Medicaid will definitely take it.

Medicaid will require the check to be paid to them. In fact, they may have already done this.

Mom is entitled to it, for her expenses and hers alone.
