Can a person own a car when receiving Medicaid in Virginia?

Guestshopadmin May 2017
However, if you are in nursing home on Medicaid, there will only be a small personal needs allowance per month with rest of income going to nursing home. $60-$125 seems to be range. That leaves little for gas, insurance and repairs. Also once elder passes it can be considered eligible for part of MERP, the estate recovery process to recover payments made on behalf of patient. Car is not exempt past death or able to be exempted by caregiver child.

No, just because you may need Medicaid health insurance doesn't mean you can't have a car, car insurance and gas money to take you to the doctor. They don't tell you how to spend every dine, they're looking at income.

Medicaid insurance or Medicaid taking care of him in a NH. If its just because of his health insurance, I would ask the person who handles his Medicaid account. If he has income to buy a car then he has income to pay his own insurance, that may be how Medicaid looks at it. If in a home, he is only allowed $2000 in his bank account and M looks at that account.

A car used for medical transportation of a disabled person should be exempt. It can be very expensive as many vehicles may be specially equipped for the person who needs transport.

I would not think there is a limit on the value of the car. That would be impossible to regulate. But, do not go out an buy him a car, if he is not able to drive.

Thank you for your reply. Do you know if there is a limit on car price?

In most states, one can own a car and a house.
