My mom is 85 and completely burned out she can't do it anymore he is in the hospital now and the social worker said he might have to go home in 3 days my mom said she would commit suicide if he comes home
If day is in the hospital for three days then he should be eligible for rehab.
Did the hospital social worker say "he has to go home" or did s/he say "he'll be discharged". Tell them that you want him discharged to a rehab that also has long term skilled Nursing care available.
Through Medicare, he might be eligible for up to 20 days of rehab, paid in full. Would he be able to pay privately for the NH after that or would he need Medicaid?
Brennie, if your Dad is in a hospital and the hospital wants to release him, let the hospital know there isn't anyone who can care for him at home.... stand firm.... when that happens then the hospital looks for the first available bed in long-term-care/nursing home. Hopefully the facility will be one that is close to home.
Your poor Mom, she must be terribly exhausted. It tough enough for someone 20 years younger to care for a person who has Alzheimer's/Dementia. We just don't have the same energy or strength.
