My stepfather placed my mom in a nursing home but he won't tell me where. How can I find her?

It's a long story but I will shorton it by saying I am 53...and met my stepfather when I was 13. things have never been good between me and him when at that age I caught him sneaking in our house to see my mom. there are a lot of horrible things that have happened over the years. Can someone please point me in the right direction. I spent part of the day writing down all the nursing homes in her town. I don't know the laws. I'm assuming they probably cant tell me anything either. I mean I can rattle off the horror I have had to walk through over the years with this scary man. I just don't know and my mom is going to pass soon. I feel it in my soul. I think I will soon be experiencing a sadness like no other. I have to find her. please help.
