What is the best way to keep mold out of a water-filled spray bottle and to clean and protect from further contamination?

Mom's incontinent & bed/chair bound. She's on various med's, and it's sometimes a struggle to get her to drink enough water. Because of this, I wash and rinse her perineal area thoroughly using a perineal wash and water from a new spray bottle. After two days though, the water came out smelling musty. Even after washing/soaking the bottle with bleach solution, it smelled musty upon spray test. I like the convenience of a sprayer, but what should I add to the water to suppress/eliminate mold growth? Also, how can I clean it using natural cleansers/disinfectants without harsh chemicals?

How do u clean the nozel? As suggested, I would empty the water everyday. Washing in hot sudsy water should be OK. Let dry in a drainer. Take the nozle and put the tubing in the hot water and take the water thru it. Then do it again with clear water a couple of times. Make sure all the water Is out of it and put that in the drainer where the flatware goes. The vinegar idea is good.

Vinegar.

Put just 1/2 teaspoon in the water. It will prevent every sort of fungus growth.....and will prevent many bacterial growth as well.

You can purchase a perineal spray bottle from a medical supply company and use pure water, changed for each cleaning. Cleaning the bottle with a bleach/water solution once per day and rinsing it thoroughly afterwards should keep it from developing any odors.

I would not leave the water sitting in the bottle between uses, as plastic tends to breed odors.

Just my thoughts.
