What kinds of therapy is available at home for a stroke patient?

I'm so sorry to hear what happened. I'm sure its not easy having a stroke at 89 years old.

I would check with her doctor or nurses for recommendations. I know some home care agencies have occupational and physical therapists, but I'm not sure about the costs.

Is she not on traditional Medicare? I had a friend who was on one of the advantage plans. It was so different on what it would cover. ( not much) Some physical therapy facilities offer discount rates to seniors for exercise. They have therapist who work with their clients. You might check to see what's in your area. Explain your situation and see what they say. You might also see about getting her on Medicaid and maybe she could get better care all the way around.

Question asked is she on Medicare? I am assuming not. If he has had home therapy then she has reached her limit or therapist felt she hit a plateau. Maybe her primary can help with some exercises.

Not sure there is much available to you unless it's private pay. Your mom is not on Medicare? Medicare usually will pay for in home therapy for 60 days. Not sure though if it's only @ 80% thus her supplement would pay the 20%.
If I were you I would go on YouTube and search for exercises you can do while she is in bed - passive range of motion, anything that you can learn to do on your own. Is she totally bedridden? If so please consider repositioning her every two hours and perhaps get an alternating pressure mattress as if she is immobile she is at risk of getting bedsores.
That's really unfortunate for her. Can she swallow correctly?
Will her insurance pay for speech therapy? Anything else? Can you appeal their decision?
Do you think she needs nursing home placement? Can she qualify for Medicare?

Her insurance is terrible. They do not cover Rehab hospitals, only skilled nursing facilities which are horrible in our area. Now home therapy has stopped. She's not progressing enough for the insurance company to approve continuation.

Why wasn't she sent to rehab? She should have been set up with some kind of therapy at discharge. If not, u may want to find out why.

Medicare pays for PT, OT and nurse visits...not sure what else. Guess it would also depend on how severe the stroke is
