Will my dad still receive the same amount of VA Aid and Attendance money if we care for him at home?

My dad is living at an assisted living facility and receives $1,794/month from VA Aid and Attendance. We would now like to care for him at home.  Do we need to do anything or can we just start using the money to take care of him at home?

Based on an article on this site, it looks like he would probably continue to qualify but you'll need to document who is being paid to provide care, report it properly for local, state and federal tax purposes, and if you hire outside help make sure that you have the proper rider on homeowner's insurance in case of workman's comp claims.

Aide & Attendance is so complicated that I find it hard to determine what the criteria and rules are. So in your situation, I would contact the VA social worker who works with the VA primary care doctor on your father's care team (designated by color, such as the green team....). He/she can direct you to someone knowledgeable enough to provide good information.
