In California, can we place a security camera in our Mother's assisted living room?

Only her children would be able to view her in her living room and kitchen area. No one else would have access. No bathroom viewing. What are the laws?

BK, when it comes to our elderly parents falling, you could have a whole room filled with nurses and aides, and that elder is going to find a way to fall in a split second.

California allows security cameras by the facility even in a resident's room, but I am unsure as to one that we control (not used by the facility) in her private room

She receives excellent care but in her confusion gets up, stuck behind furniture, and has fallen. The caregivers can't always be watching her and neither can we but maybe between the two of us, we can help one another. It is also nice to occasionally 'see' how she is doing.

Your first step is to get permission from the Assisted Living facility to put into place cameras, the facility will be able to tell you if such cameras are allowed or not. Each State is different.

May I ask what are your reasons to have such cameras? Are you questioning the care of your Mom?
