How long does it take for social security to withdraw their last check?

Brother passed Sept.3, we got death cert. to close his acct checking. Well S.S. deposits his Oct. Check. We go to bank with cert to close but S.S. has a HOLD on check. Well now its been a yr come Oct. The balance keeps showing on bank statement but only our 13.00 is available. So how long does it take for S.S. to withdraw last check? I have called S.S. but no return call. We had to take 777.00 of our money and cremate him. His check is 733.00. We been paying on grave since his passing in Sept. It will be paid off Oct. Be nice to receive this S.S. money in paying us back. Keeping the faith.
