My husband had a stroke a month ago and I haven't been able to work due to he needs 24 care. We have 2 children and are barely surviving now.

Is there anywhere that we can get help?

Are you in the US, Judy? Call your county's Human Services department, and ask for a needs assessment for your disabled husband. The needs assessor who comes out will not only determine what care he needs (help bathing, mobility issues, help eating -- whatever) but will also know about what kinds of help your family may be eligible for, and how to apply for it.

A social worker gave me this advice when my husband developed dementia, and that was exactly the right place to start.

1st call Catholic charities ,next find your local pantry ,if you are involved in a church ask where you can find help.Is he a Vet ?The VA will help they are awesome.! Are either of your kids old enough to watch dad so you can work ? How bout hubby's family can they help watch him so you can work?? Is hubby appreciate for palliative care? The hospital your hubby was at should have a social worker that can connect you with help, that's a social workers job to help direct you .

I'm not sure I know what kind of help you're needing. Financial help? Help with caring for your husband?

Do your kids help out?

How did the stroke affect your husband? Do you need help transferring him? Helping him eat? Bathing him and keeping him clean?

Let us know what kind of help you're looking for, it will help people who respond know what your needs are.

When my husband suffered a life threatening infection and was forced to retire, I was on the Internet for two days straight researching what aid was available for us. I immediately applied for Disability benefits through Social Security. By the Grace of God, we were approved within a month. Your husband should be entitled to Veterans Benefits and receive medical care through the VA. Are your children young and dependent on you? If so, you should be entitled to Aid for Dependent Children, or whatever they call that program now. Are you old enough to claim Social Security? Do it. I claimed mine at 63 because we would have sunk long ago if I hadn’t. Do your research according to your own circumstances. It’s out there. You just need to educate yourself.

What are your ages? Have you applied for Medicaid?
