My dad is 85, can he have free medicare if coming to the USA for good?

marianna16, even if your Dad is a U.S. citizen during the past couple of decades, he would have needed to have paid payroll taxes into the U.S. coffers for Medicare and for Social Security, both go hand in hand. He would have needed to have done this for a certain number of years to qualify.

Medicare isn't free to those who have not contributed, as it wouldn't be fair for those of us who had been paying payroll Federal taxes for many decades.

Now, you could try Medicaid [different from Medicare] to see if your Dad could qualify. I think there is a 5 year waiting period. Call your State Medicaid office to see what are your State rules and regulations.

In the mean-time, check with Kaiser Insurance as I believe they have health insurance for those who are non-citizens.

If dad is not a citizen or current resident alien doubt he will be eligable for any assistance. To be honest I don't see why he should get free assistance when he has never contributed to the cost. Where is he comming from and does he currently recieve assistance in his home country? i can see lots of problems ahead for you especially if you are not a citizen,
