My Dad is in a nursing home & will be private pay for a year. What is the limit he can give as gifts for birthdays and Christmas?

My Dad has enough assets to last him about a year in the nursing home. I was just wondering if he is still able to give his kids, grandkids , & a great grandchild Birthday & Christmas gifts. And what is the limit for the 5 year look back with Medicaid?
