How do I get paid for taking care of sick elderly family member?
My mother will be starting dialysis soon. Would like to know how to get paid to take care of her. I quit my job to care for my mother. Live in Bucks County, Pa. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
I wish you hadn’t quit your job Hopelives, you have your own future to think about. You didn’t state your mother’s health issues or her financial status - does she qualify for aid or can she pay out of pocket? There are lots of options available to her with out you having to quit working. I’ve not heard of children being paid for taking care of a parent, though I have heard of receiving stipends to cover expenses such as gas for running errands, things like that. Maybe someone else will have more information...
Hopelives, the vast majority of grown children do not get paid for taking care of their parent.... unless the parent can pay for the care from their own retirement fund. If yes, then you would need to put together an employment contract.
If your Mom can qualify for Medicaid [which is different from Medicare] some States do offer programs where the caregiver can get paid.... but not it would be very minimal.
Curious, if you quit your job, what will you do about health care insurance for yourself? Or are you at the age where you received Medicare?
