My mom is 90, my dad was a WWII vet, and has passed away. Can my mom get help with meds and personal care at home?

Mom needs assistance with most everything including bathing, cooking, house cleaning, etc. How do I get help or find out about benefits for her?

You will need Dad's honorable discharge document DD214.

If you are able to substantiate your father's active duty through his military discharge papers indicating that part of his service fell within the WWII time frame 12/7/41 - 12/31/46 then you may be in a position to pursue non-service connected pension plus aid and attendance as a surviving spouse. A surviving spouse for this benefit is defined as married to the veteran at the time of the veteran's passing and did not remarry.

Please contact the Veterans Administration. There are various programs that your mom may qualify for based on income or service status. You can begin an application online at VA.GOV or you can look at the bottom of the page for the topic Veterans Benefits. There are LOTS of good articles on this site. If you just google/search the internet, you may find a group that offers to do it for a fee. You can get free help through the VA or VFW in your area.
