This isn't a plan for the near future. This is just an option for independence in the future. You see, I'm disabled (Little's Disease and Hydrocephalus). I can get around okay with my cane, but I can't work and I can't really drive or go places. My mom died in 2010, and my dad died yesterday. So the idea was brought up by my brother and sister-in-law that, a long way down the road, I can find an independent living place where I could have my own space, my own apartment. But people would check in on me occasionally, help with groceries (I assume going and getting them, offering them, or me ordering them online? I don't know) and driving me places and so forth if necessary; there would also be community activities and events of course, to socialize within that space. Now, no research has been done on this since it's so far away in the future for me. But it's highly interesting to me so I'm asking for advice and help to find places like that. I don't want to live in a primarily elderly or disabled community, though. That's one of my worries; I may be disabled, but the community I'd like would be mixed, with "average" people as well, not just elders or disabled people. Maybe I'm just being picky, I don't know. Either way, I would love some help finding places like this around Houston, TX.
