Dad is 83yo vet who has a service connected disability though has a 0% disability rating. We have fought that for years and STILL waiting. In the meantime, he pays social security monthly for health insurance and yet VA still charges him 50 dollars each doctor visit and there are like 2 a week. We asked why they don't bill Medicare as secondary and were told since they both are govt programs they can't do that. What can we do?

Second, I think the VA payment system is a complex one. You might want to ask the social worker associated with your father's medical team. Since he's being treated twice weekly, the next time you go, ask if you can meet with the social worker. I've found them to be very, very helpful and knowledgeable about the labyrinthine VA operations.
Maybe it is the area you are in, but I never found an Attorney willing to give a free hour. $250 - $350 per hour or part there of. Pretty standard.
Even the lawyer who had "free initial consult" listed was not willing to do that for anything other than an injury lawsuit possibility.
I thought it might just be that Boston is just so pricy....but, even out here in small town Colorado it has been impossible to find a free consult.
