Home hospice; If he lives and is taken off hospice, will my dad be able to go to a Nursing Home?

My father is on home hospice. We were all hoping this was the right thing. My mother is his primary caregiver. It has been 5 weeks. We are not sure if mom can handle this as his care becomes more complicated . To complicate things the condo they live in is in foreclosure (hasn’t gone to court yet) they have limited resources. My father's monthly check pays for all their expenses . My mom only has SS. I believe they qualify for Medicaid especially if my dad's out of pocket expenses increase via more help in the home or ECF placement. IF HE LIVES and is taken off hospice, and they are evicted will my dad be able to go to Nursing Home? How do I begin Medicaid application for my dad? Believe it or not hospice people don’t seem to want to get involved with this. HELP

You can call the Medicaid office Monday, and the can start the process. However if you think a nursing home could happen, pick one you like and talk to their person. Trust me they have someone on staff the eats, sleeps and breaths Medicaid.

Master, I'm so sorry that you have all these burdens! Have you spoken to the Hospice office, say the director of social work about these issues?

If you Google the name of your state and Medicaid, you'll get a link to your state Medicaid site. Start there with what you need to gather ( banking records, etc.). At this point, I wouldn't even look at the " qualifying income " part because its quite complex when a spouse is involved is quite complex.

Katsee, at what stage are the foreclosure proceedings? Have you contacted any counselors to help negotiate a workout? I'm asking b/c if this can be resolved you won't have to lose the condo, and can focus on other aspects of caregiving.

Others are more knowledgeable about Medicaid than I and can offer good suggestions, but be patient since tomorrow is a holiday and there might not be as much traffic on this forum.
