I'm Exhausted 😩

Mom is declining rapidly. She is 70 and I am 48 w/SLE Lupus, married w/children. She has been with me full time for 4 years. I did a quick sale of her property early this year. Mom gets a small monthly income. I have finally called Dept on Aging in IL for any help. I quit my job a year ago because I couldn't leave mom at home alone with the stove, etc. Does anyone know of a 24/7 facility in IL or IN for private pay under 2K a month? I'm losing it and yes I feel guilty too.

Yes, house should have been sold at Market value. Brother should not have gotten what remained. The house was considered income that could have been used for her care.

Oh my, Newnormal2. You may need to speak with an elder care attorney, as Medicaid application approval is normally affected by any money given away.

Freqflyer. Thank you, I sold the house well below market value for a quick sale. After commission and fees I gave most of what was left to my youngest brother who moved out of state. I just recently learned that by word of mouth about a Public Aid spin down and looking back to 5 years for her home ownership.

Newnormal2, we all know what you are going through. It is so sad watching a parent decline with Alzeimer's/Dementia.

By chance, have you checked to see if your Mom would qualify for Medicaid [which is different from Medicare]. Some States have a waiver program where Mom can go into an Assisted Living/Memory Care... the State pays some of the monthly cost and Mom pays the rest. It's worth looking into. Each State has their own programs.

Regarding the house, you said you did a quick sale of Mom's home. Just curious what you meant by quick sale. Such as doing a quit claim deed, or selling the house for below market value?
