Anita, I see from your profile that your Father has memory issues. Are there any other medical issues, and how is Dad doing with his Alzheimer's/Dementia?
For myself, I used a well known Agency mainly because the Agency was licensed, insured, bonded, and had workman's comp in case the caregiver got hurt on the job, which can happen. The caregivers were vetted. They also had their TB test and flu shot. I also liked the idea that if a caregiver wasn't able to make her/his shift, the Agency quickly found a replacement. My Dad had the same 2 caregivers for over a year, it was a great match as the caregivers and my Dad had a lot in common.
Other's here might be able to give you their recommendations, and if they had used a person not from an Agency, how well did it work.
