My 95 year old mother has vascular dementia. She was put in rehab for a while to buy time and get some strength back before taking her home. A couple of days ago she fell out of wheelchair onto floor and hit her head. She went to hospital to be checked out said all tests were negative. And is back at rehab. Yesterday they took bandage off a purple bruise from forehead all the way past eye on one side. She is sleeping a lot more. I am afraid this injury were end her life sooner then anticipated. Should I be worried.

If Hospice placement happens & she continues living at the rehab facility (as it's a NH as well as rehab) please discuss with the facility the payment situation. Hospice as a MediCARE benefit does not cover the room& board charges for her stay. That’s paid either private pay, or Medicaid.
My backside of 90 mom fell ( pulling her wheelchair no less!! ) and shattered her hip while living in a NH. She went onto hospice rather than have surgery. She was on hospice for 18 long long months. My experience was that the NH really likes residents who are there on Hospice as Hospice provides additional caregivers and specialized equipment that makes caregiving much easier for all. Plus mom got all kinds of extra 1-on-1 attention.
