Narcissists who say "you hate me" are fishing for validation of your love for them. There is no right answer. No amount of reassurance works. There is no snappy comeback that makes it all better. Journaling might help. So will going to see a therapist.
So will getting your narcissistic parent into a care facility where you can visit briefly and leave when they start to act up.
I know we all sometimes think it but I think its better left unsaid if at all possible. It is a sign of pure frustration. If someone has dementia all the hateful words are because of the disease. They are suffering and the caregiver is suffering too. Its a no win.
I wished I had tried journaling more during my dad's illness. Maybe it would have helped me get my feelings out. I needed different ways to address my own pain and sorrow about the situation.
Depends on whether you are dealing with a mature adult who understands and wants some kind of relationship with you. A narcissist? Forget it. They have not a clue.
