What happens in the state of PA if you are in assisted living and run out of money?

She should never have been there in the first place. My sister-in-law put her mother in assisted living but she should not have been put there she should have gone into a senior apt. There is nothing wrong with her she has all her faculties and does not need assistance now she is running out of money, she is in a for profit home. That daughter is pretty well off where the rest of us aren't.

I live in NJ. The two ALs we have near me require two years private pay and then they will allow you to use Medicaid. Your SIL must have figured out how long her Moms money would last. I am assuming this is your MIL you are talking about. SIL must have POA or Mom is with it to place her in an AL. If this is ur MIL and SIL didn't consult you then I wouldn't feel obligated. I hate when family assumes I have money to help out.

Do you think someone is going to suggest that your husband cough up money for AL?

I can’t tell you about Pennsylvania laws but you seem aggrieved about your SIL’s mother? I would assume the assisted living will be paid by the SIL? Are you POA? Hummm....
