Of course the gentlest way would be in the shower, if there is dry skin built up on her back can you imagine what it must be like in other less visible areas? If you have a clear idea why she doesn't shower you may be able to take steps to overcome those obstacles, is her bathroom equipped with grab bars, no slip mats, a safe bathroom heater, a comfortable shower chair? If it is impossible to convince her then you might try the No Rinse bath products (they make shampoos too), you just add a little to water and wash with a washcloth as normal, they don't build up or dry the skin like soap would. If it is dry and crusty you could try softening the skin with coconut oil first.
