Does anyone know if a spouse can change the HIPAA paperwork at doctor's office to exclude other family members if they are not health proxy?

Even a health care proxy can't make changes if the person is competent. As Moms MPOA I could sign the Hippa form and add people.

If your spouse has already authorised this other family member to be given information about his/her health, and no longer has the mental capacity to be able to change his instructions, do you mean?

What problems is the family member causing in terms of your spouse's healthcare? The reason I ask is that maybe even if you can't prevent access to information there could be other ways of dealing with the issues that arise from it.

Oh, sorry--a SPOUSE? No, I think it needs to be the actual patient. I can't access my hubby's healthcare records--as per his request and so I certainly can't change his wishes, as he is perfectly competent. If the spouse is NOT the healthcare proxy, they have no say, as far as I know.

Yes, you can assign ANYONE you want to have availability to see your healthcare records. And then (supposedly) only those on the form have the right to see what's going on.

Actually, I have my oldest daughter on my forms, then my hubby. He travels a lot and my daughter is actually much more concerned/involved in my life. Plus I totally trust her.
