My mom has Alzheimer’s and she had colon cancer 6 years ago. She constantly goes to the toilet to poop. What might the problem be?
Her colon is shorter since surgery. Recently she got the flu and she has been having constant stomach pains and goes to the bathroom and does poop most times. She does have diabetes so she uses meds for that. What might the problem be?
Neaty Has your mom seen a gastroenterologist? Her problem could be Irritable Bowel Syndrome which is a very common disorder that can develop in later years. There is usually pain and can be IBS-D ( Diarrhea ) or IBS-C (constipation) and I believe some people have both D and C. When she has pain an OTC acid reducer might help or she might need something stronger. Fiber is very important. We are supposed to get somewhere around 20-30 grams a day of fiber but increase slowly. Plus probiotics are helpful. Her thyroid may be off. I suppose it could be any number of things. Best to have her checked out by a specialist especially since she has had the colon cancer. I hope she feels better soon.
