Here in CA, I looked into an adult daycare for my mother and they asked if she was on Medicare. Didn't ask me anything about Medicaid. The cost would be fully paid for by Medicare (and maybe Medicaid?) I didn't find out if Medicaid was required because we never went through with the enrollment. It was because my mom hated being there. She didn't like crowded places or noisy places. I wish she would agree to go because it was a good the program and it would be good for her and me. But no, she has to hang on to me like a leech and gives me stress everyday.
I saw in your profile that you're taking care of your father. I hope he will agree to go. It would give you a much needed break. Good luck to you.
Stephen1, my experience was that the cost varies. Variables include your state, city, local programs/other organizations that might offer a day program. In one city in OR I found a church-based program which was around $75/day (included showering them). In a WA city, there was a caregiver program which offered a sliding scale fee (their goal was specifically to help the caregiver by providing some respite); and it also included van transportation. Also, a private memory care home that also had openings for day care, they charged an hourly rate that was approx $20/hr. And another place had a morning art class for elders which was sort of half a day, so that could be convenient for the caregiver to do errands or whatever. Can't remember the cost but thought it was reasonable. She was low-income but didn't have Medicaid. I have gotten the impression that people on Medicaid get some coverage for day care in WA, but do not know any details.
If it’s a day community center that’s part of a PACE program, they need to be “duals”, that means on both Medicare and Medicaid as all services get billed to the M&Ms in one way or another. So all costs are covered.
It can cost $100 a day. Medicare is health insurance and Doesn't cover the cost. Medicaid may depending on income either fully or partial. There was a member whose father was getting daycare thru the VA. Maybe she will chime in. For the VA call your local county agency.
