My Mom says she feels she has 2 more years although she had a referral to hospice. Just as they can sense death is near, could this be true?

Could be true. Or she might be wrong.
I should "hope for the best, prepare for the worst"; and meanwhile try to keep on top of her medical information so that you can be ready to meet her care needs as they change.
