Will Medicare pay for home care for total hip replacement?

They will pay for acute rehab and then once that is no longer needed either step down rehab (NH) or home care meaning visits from nurses and PT, OT whatever is assessed as necessary as often as is assessed as necessary. The big choice comes at that juncture when they are leaving acute rehab, do they still need more care than you are able to give 24/7 with the addition of maybe 1-2 hrs a day (most), can the patient and family do it on their own yet, if not Medicare covers NH care because it's more affordable than all day skilled care in their assessment. At least that's the basic path and premise as I understand it. There is a time limit and bench marks as well for in patient care from Medicare so the true answer has a lot to do with how hard the patient is able to and will work at rehab and any complications or setbacks along the way. Hip replacements can be really tough and the patient frame of mind and determination (which includes family support and spirit) can make a huge difference on the outcome and speed of recovery which is not to say a slower recovery is the patients (or support systems) fault, I want to be clear!
