This might sit oddly with you but if there are certain pieces you would love to have....ask your mum if she would gift them to you. Often as a jeweller I hear the reason seniors give away treasures is because they want to be around to enjoy to gift giving, not have it happen after they are gone!
Maybe your mom would enjoy seeing you wear and get joy from something she has; and you would get something physical to remember her by.
Yes its her jewelry so she can give it to whoever she wants. I don't think our parents are obligated to give us anything. if she's not of sound mind and they are asking her for things, thats another story though. My parents just had their living trust done and they asked my brother and I what we wanted. Most items of monetary value will go to me, not because I asked for it, I only wanted items of sentimental value, but my parents both know my brother wants the few valuables so he can sell them after mom & dad are gone!
Mom, is giving it to whom she chooses, it is hers. She might tell them not to tell you, because she doesn't want your feelings to be hurt, like they are now. You have your mom, you have the best of her treasures.enjoy that. Material things don't matter.
Lindy, have you considered having a nice, sit down talk with her and telling her how much those items would mean to you, and how much you'd like to have them?
Are you sure she's deliberately ignoring you as a potential recipient?
She’s giving it to relatives and telling them not to tell me. I see her every day and could not look after her any better if I tried. It’s very hurtful.
LindyLou2708, sounds like your Mom is still able to understand what she is doing if she is living in Independent Living. Unless her Alzheimer's/Dementia [per your profile] has reached another level.
Who is Mom giving her jewelry to? Relatives, friends, other people who live in Independent Living?
