Can I send a copy of Mom's death certificate with the word 'void' on it?

I am in the process of gathering Mom's credit card companies and her account information for each so I can notify these creditors of Mom's recent death. I just copied the death certificate and noticed that the word 'void' shows up throughout the copied document. Is this document still okay to send to creditors or do I have to pay the $15 fee for each certificate for 8 creditors?

Seems invalid to me but I am wondering what everyone else has experienced.

A Copy should be fine, we are currently dealing with the same thing with my MILs affairs now that she has passed on and no one has required an official death certificate. There’s one open card with a $4k balance and they accepted a copy of the DC The cost for the official death certificate is $20 here! Through the funeral home. The county doesn’t charge any less than that either.

Take a photo of it and then copy the photo. Void should not show up.

Floralscent, my gosh $15 for each new death certificate sounds very expensive. By chance are you going through the County or State to get the certificates?

Check with the funeral director who helped with Mom's funeral to see how much it would cost by going through them. I remember my parents certficates were $1.00 a piece.

Actually it was the funeral home that was charging $15 per death certificate. I thought that was very high but we did get 4 originals.

The copy should be enough. If they want an original they can ask for it. Some places ask for a fax and thats a copy. Send them certified mail. I had Dads former employer calling me for an original DC that I had mailed but not certified. I confirmed the address I was given, it was right. Told them it was on someones desk and I wasn't send another original. They weren't the government.
