Who do you call to file a complaint on a leader at a senior center that provides meals on wheels in Calif?

Attended the center when husband was alive but since his passing she has no transportation to attend. She's asking for meals on wheels food be delivered but the Senior Center's leader is avoiding and continues to give excuses over 2 months why she hasn't gone to complete assessment for senior to receive delivery. She personally knows the senior and suspicions are that someone is telling her not to go. Senior has no food so distant relatives have had to constantly buy the senior food. Her son controls her social security and bank account and will not use her money to buy her food and other misc. He occasionally will show up at 10pm with a plate of food. Her refrigerator is empty until other family has to show up with food. Please help, who do we complain to?

Call APS on the son. This is much more serious than a meals on wheels employee. If she has no food, call the police. This is elder abuse by the son. Meals on Wheels is not going to solve this problem. Bring in some "big guns."

Call your local Office on Aging. They are usually affiliated with both the Senior Centers and Meals on Wheels as they are all government programs. Ask them to speak directly with the manager of the Meals on Wheels program and they can get delivery set up.

Where I live - PA They deliver 21 frozen meals a week, plus a bag of snacks like granola bars, Jello cups, fruit cups, etc. you apply through county senior center. Call for an assessment. If you live in an area that doesn’t have a delivery route, you can pick up at senior center on a specific day. If you don’t have transportation, the county bus will take you for $1.50 round trip. If you’re at the senior center they usually have a table that has donated fresh fruit, veggies and baked goods. You can take what you need. Local grocery donates bakery extras. Fruit and veggies donated by local growers.

First, you need to call Adult Protection Services on the son saying she has no food. Son not making sure she is getting what she needs. If woman is competent, she can have her SS sent to a different acct. Just found out they will put it on a debit card instead of direct deposit.

The Senior Center does not control Meals on Wheels. Where I live there is a waiting list and short supply of drivers. She needs to call the local office and tell them she was getting it at senior center but no transportation could she have delivered to her house. There is a small cost.

Check out food closets in the area. Tell them you need emergency food.

I’m not that familiar with Meals on Wheels, but I don’t think they deliver 3 meals a day; only one. How did you discover that this woman was being passed over for the program? And who is this “someone” who is telling the manager not to go complete the assessment? The woman should answer to her supervisor, not a random someone who tells her not to visit and complete her assessment. Something seems suspiciously like hearsay. Make sure you have hard facts and proof before you seek out the program director and report this woman.

IMHO, your issues are with the deadbeat son. Who is this woman to you and how did you find out about this neglect? If you are certain this is true, you need to call Adult Protective Services and report an At Risk Adult. At the least, her son is guilty of neglect. You don’t have to give your name to file a report. They will visit the woman and open a case. They will also track down the son to find out what is really going on.

Totally by accident that when we called the senior center for info how to get on meals on wheels program, the woman took the information then she stated she knew the senior after we gave the name. She is related by marriage and her son knows the senior's son very well. All the confidential info re:neglect that was given we suspect the woman relayed it back to the son and this explains why she is purposely not going to complete the assessment. We just now found out the senior has been admitted to the hospital. The Center's worker was given a directive to go finish the assessment. The neighbor told her an ambulance came late in the night and took her. So NOW the center is concerned and wanting to avoid blame for not assisting in getting the senior on the list for food delivery. This senior is my aunt. Thru visits we visibly saw neglect and her son is avoiding us.
