My mom (69) is not sleeping at all at night! Does anyone know what stage of dementia this is?

She will sleep in the car for short naps. Unfortunately she also has bipolar and schizo defective disorder. She thinks I will hurt her. What are the states of dementia? No medication works for her anymore. The doctors increase the dosage but nothing works. She's diabetic and will sneak in the kitchen and eat all night. She will even cook in the middle of the night. I have to sleep with couches, weights and fish tanks pushed to the entry and exits of my house.

I forgot to tell you, these mental disorders can have the same symptoms as dementia. For example, bipolar disorder can cause being awake for days as dementia can do the samething with some people. Therefore it might be hard to figure out what is bipolar and what is dementia.

You can go to ALZ.org website for more information. They have a hotline you can call with questions. Sometime they are helpful and sometimes not, however, they will send you information about the different stages, which has helped me to figure out where my mom might be. My mom has not been dx because she believes there is nothing wrong with her & she fired her last MD and refuses to get another one. I hope this helps.

Can you get her admitted to a geriatric psychiatric facility so that she can have a complete medication review, and so that the docs can be sure she's actually taking the meds?

Sadly, it sounds as though she can no longer be safely cared for at home.
